Originally created as a companion to the AdvancedTCA® architecture, AdvancedMC™s make modular computing a reality.

The modular approach to systems design reduces development expenses and optimizes time to market because it relies on commercial off-the-shelf solutions provided by embedded computing vendors. It also protects hardware investments, because as technology advances, new modules can simply be plugged in without replacing the entire system. Modularity also encourages the growth of a multi-vendor ecosystem which increases competition and decreases costs. AdvancedMCs provide a wide variety of I/O, processors and development enablers that are ready for use today on AdvancedTCA blades and proprietary systems, and also directly as blades in MicroTCA™ systems.

GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms offers a broad selection of AdvancedMC products, as well as enabling technology such as carrier cards and chassis, to help you rapidly deploy AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA. As a member of PICMG®, GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms was closely involved in the creation of AdvancedMC and MicroTCA, and we are uniquely positioned to deliver this new technology because of our strong communications heritage and our focus on providing modular components and blades to system integrators and TEMs.

The Telum™ line from GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms is one of the most comprehensive lines of AdvancedMC modules available. We offer IP Packet Processors, Intel® Pentium® M processors, Gigabit Ethernet, storage modules, Fibre Channel, T1/E1/J1, OC-3, D-3/E3, and OC12, a video adapter, a GPS-based clock, supporting hardware such as carrier cards and an expansion chassis. Advanced Mezzanine Cards give AdvancedTCA designers the flexibility to add a wide number of interfaces to each design. This flexibility means that identical base systems can be customized with a variety of different processing and I/O capabilities for specific applications. The Telum™ brand line of AdvancedMCs from GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms provides an effective AdvancedMC-based alternative to legacy telecomm systems.

Advanced Mezzanine Cards, as part of the AdvancedTCA ecosystem, bring all the features needed for a standalone system. They are hot swappable, based on a serial interconnect, and include intelligent system management capabilities. In a MicroTCA system, the Advanced Mezzanine Cards function as micro-blades which can provide I/O and processing power without needing a carrier card.

As it turns out, AdvancedMCs are so capable in their own right that they quite easily assume the role of “mini blades” within a MicroTCA system which provides a backplane and controller that emulates the functions of a carrier card. The range of existing AdvancedMCs is expected to number in the hundreds, thus giving MicroTCA system designers incredible flexibility in their system features.
