FREE BOOK OFFERVPX Reference Guide![]() The goal of VPX is to bring rugged industrial and defense computing into the era of serial switched fabric backplanes, while preserving many of the features which made VME successful. Our reference guide on VPX technology gives a thorough and useful overview of this new technology. The guide goes into significant technical detail, including numerous drawings, figures and explanations of the specification.
The US Department of Defense and other users are mandating improved implementation of open standards and interoperability. VPX specifications have been focused at the board level, but there is also a need for considering system-level requirements to improve interoperability and reduce customization, testing, cost, and risk. Solution: OpenVPXGE Fanuc's system level experience in military subsystems provides valuable input to the OpenVPX™ Industry Working Group formed in January 2009. As a working group member, GE Fanuc is contributing to the objective of developing a VPX Systems Specification, leveraging the work of existing VPX standards to create better interoperability. The VPX Systems Specification defines an architecture that manages and constrains module and backplane designs, including defining pin outs, and sets interoperability points within VPX while maintaining full compliance with VPX. The work of the OpenVPX Industry Working Group is scheduled to be introduced into the VITA Standards Organization (VSO) in 4Q 2009 as VITA 65 for final comment, ballot, and ratification as a standard.
